Join us for the second-annual Rondo - an intimate get together of APIC members to share, connect, and learn. This year's event will provide information on portfolio construction methodologies, business generation, and as usual, a plethora of best ideas. As always, APIC content is developed by APIC advisors, for APIC members.

Representing Columbia Threadneedle Investments’ federal legislative and regulatory interests, Liz’s issues include taxation, retirement security, insurance, corporate governance, and human resources.

 

Prior to joining the company in May 2014, Ms. Varley was part of New York Life from September 2010 to May 2014 as vice president in the Office of Government Affairs where she focused on legislative and regulatory issues relating to retirement income, securities, and investment management. Before joining New York Life, Ms. Varley held the position of managing director, government affairs, at the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA). At SIFMA, she was responsible for legislative and regulatory issues relating to retirement policy and executive compensation. Ms. Varley joined the legacy trade association, the Securities Industry Association (SIA) in 1999.

 

Prior to joining the SIA, Ms. Varley held the position of counsel at the Senate Special Committee on Aging from February of 1995 to April of 1999. While there, she covered pension, IRAs, Social Security, and Social Security disability issues. Before going to the aging committee, Ms. Varley was a staff attorney for the Bipartisan Commission on Entitlements and Tax Reform. Ms. Varley received a bachelor of arts from the University Of Nebraska in 1990 and a juris doctorate from the University Of Nebraska College Of Law in 1993.

WHEN

We will be repeating the content at both events, so pick the event that works best for your schedule. This event was designed to maximize your experience in the minimum amount of time. In most instances we expect participants to only spend one night away from home. There will still be plenty of time to mix and mingle with your fellow members.

The fee includes the following:

  • Attendance at all APIC educational sessions

    Attendance at all APIC meal functions as listed in the agenda

The fee does NOT include:

  • Hotel room costs

  • Travel Costs, airfare, parking, transfers, etc.

Payment – You will need to provide a credit card on the secure Conference Registration website. In addition, all attendees will be required to present a credit card upon check at the hotel for payment of the room and any incidentals.

CANCELLATION POLICY

The deadline for attendees to cancel without penalty is 11:59 PM EDT on Monday, June 6th. After this date, the following penalties will apply:

  • REGISTRATION FEE: 100%

  • GUEST ROOM AT FAIRMONT: One night room & tax charges. APIC will be held financially responsible for your guest room, and therefore, must pass the cancellation charges on to you

TRAVEL

Arrival Time - We suggest arriving on a flight that lands no later than 12:00PM on Monday, June 13th.

 

Airport - The Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) is 23 miles and about a 25-minute drive to the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess.

 

Taxis - Taxis are available at the airport. The first mile is $5. Each additional mile is $2.30. The estimated cost for a one-way airport transfer to the hoel is $60. Taxi terminal access is as follows:

  • Terminal 3: North curb, outside door # 7

  • Terminal 4: Level 1, North curb, outside door # 7 and South curb, outside door #6

 

Rideshare Services - Ride share services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. 

Terminal pick-up locations for ride share service providers are as follows:

  • Terminal 3: South outer curb, west end between doors #2 and #4

  • Terminal 4: Level 1, North outer curb, far west end outside door #1

  • Terminal 4: Level 1, South outer curb east end outside door #6

  • Terminal 4: Level 1, South outer curb, far east end, outside door #8

TranStyle Transportation Service - The Fairmont Scottsdale's preferred vendor for taxi / car service.

Each of the airport terminals at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is equipped with transportation boards in the baggage claim area. Fairmont Scottsdale Princess’s photo is featured on the board with a direct telephone line to a dedicated Transtyle operator. Upon request, the operator will dispatch a vehicle for pick-up. For advance reservations and meet- and-greet services, please call 800-410-5479. Estimated price for one-way airport transfer is $65–$85 per sedan, including gratuity. Limousines and SUVs are also available upon request.

 

Parking - The Fairmont offers both self and valet parking. Current rates are:

  • Valet parking: From $24 USD for overnight, including in-and-out privileges

  • Self-parking: $15 USD per night

  • Visitor parking: $12 USD for valet temporary parking and $8 USD for temporary self-parking.

We have reserved a limited number of early morning tee times on Monday, June 13th. Join your colleagues on the famous TPC Scottsdale "Stadium" course, which is the home of the PGA Waste Management Phoenix Open. 

 

The rate for APIC Members is $175 - you will need to select Golf during the registration process and you will be charged at that time. Availability is limited and will be bookable on a first come - first served basis. 

 

Rental clubs will be available to rent on site at the Clubhouse for $100 (includes 2 sleeves of balls).

How to Book: 

APIC is holding a block of rooms for the Conference. Instructions for booking your room in the APIC block will be provided during Registration.

TUITION REIMBURSEMENT

Some members may be eligible for tuition reimbursement. Management pre-approval is required.

EXPENSES

All travel expenses related to the APIC Rondo (hotel, taxi, parking, etc.) are the responsibility of the individual attendee.

 

If you wish to receive reimbursement for your hotel costs, you may need to submit an eReq in advance. This applies even though you are not booking the hotel through the MS travel agency. Details on how to receive a reimbursement may be found here. You will need to log into the website in order to access the page.

GUESTS & SPOUSES

  • APIC will allow guests and spouses to attend select evening events during the conference for an additional fee. Please note:

  • Due to compliance reasons, guests may not attend any content sessions - this includes all breakouts and general sessions, except where noted on the conference agenda.

  • Guests will be permitted on a first-come, first-served basis. All guests are subject to approval by APIC before attendance is granted. APIC does not guarantee guest space is available if not registered in advance of the event, before the registration cut-off date.

  • Guests may not be employed by an asset management firm or service provider. Additionally, guests may not be employed by other financial institutions other than Morgan Stanley.

  • Guests must be over the age of 21.

  • APIC extends a discount to members who attend the annual conference below the actual cost of food & services provided. Guests who attend events are expected to pay for the actual costs associated with their attendance. The cost for guests in 2022 is $350.

  • You will be given the option to register a guest during the Conference Registration process. If you would like to register a guest after your Registration is complete, please e-mail info@apicms.org

ATTIRE

Casual comfortable attire for outdoors will be appropriate for the Monday events. Shorts, tee-shirts, and flip-flops are welcome! 

 

Business Casual attire (no tie required!) will be appropriate during the Conference on Tuesday and Wednesday. 

 

Temperatures in Scottsdale in the evening are warm, so please plan accordingly.
